ISLAMABAD: National Assembly (NA) Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has called together a meeting of all the parliamentary le
aders in Senate and National Assembly on Monday to develop con
sensus on revival of military courts.
In a statement on Sunday, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said that the government tabled the
bills for Constitutional and Army Act Amendments, regarding the military courts in the National Assembly on Friday.
He said that drafts of these
bills were agreed upon on 28th February in the meeting chaired by national assembly speaker and attended by parliamentary leaders. However, some amendments have subseq
uently been suggested by Pakistan People’s Party by some other parties.
Dar said that under current circumstances, the nation is looking for united, coherent and resolute response by the political parties to effectively tackle the menace of terrorism.
The minister was of the view that in the last few years, the political parties have developed a culture of con
sensus through dialogue on issued of national impo
rtance. He said that all the political parties have demonstrated that they can rise above party politics for a national cause.
Ishaq Dar hoped that all political parties will once again demonstrate unity to effectively deal with the challenge of terrorism.
